Review of the film 'Vicky Donor'

When I first heard about this movie, I thought Vicky donor.. must be related to some organ donation movies like eyes, blood or kidney. But to my surprise when I saw the trailer of the movie it turned out to be a 'Sperm donor' movie. After seeing this movie I am very excited to write a review about it.

The movie is directed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by John Abraham. It is definitely a small movie with a big heart as said by many. The direction of the movie is plain and straight to the point. When we can donate blood, kidney or organs to save someone's life then why can't we donate sperm to give someone a life! In this modern lifestyle, infertility has become a very common problem and medical science is dealing everyday to beat this. The movie is fully entertaining and there was no effort made to feel the same. It has received lot of acclaims from the critics and the movie has choose a bold topic of sperm donation that is considered as taboo in our Indian society.

This is the movie about the life of a sperm donor. Vicky arora (Ayushmaan) is a carefree boy who is in search of a job. He lives with his mom and grandma and they have a beauty salon that helps them to earn their living. He accidently comes across Dr. Chaddha (Annu kapoor) who runs an infertility clinic and who is in search of a sperm donor from decent family background to fulfil his patients requests. Initially, vicky hesitates to take up this responsibility but Dr. Chaddha makes considerable approach to make him understand that it is a very legal thing and he is doing justice to so many childless couples seeking happiness. But when Vicky marries to Ashima Roy (Yami Gautam), he learns that he himself cannot have a child of his own since his wife is dealing with infertility. Then the movie takes a drastic turn when Vicky's family knows the fact that he was a sperm donor. Movie is hilarious with awesome dialogues and witty humor by Annu kapoor and Ayushmaan. Although it was a debut film for Ayushmaan he truly proves to be a wonderful actor. It is known fact that he himself had donated sperm in 2004 when he was a contestant in 'MTV Roadies'.

This movie is an eye opener for many such individuals who are healthy and who can give happiness to the infertile couple by donating their sperm. It is a youth centric movie with comedy and romance all going together with a social cause. It shows an optimistic look for the health issue. Songs in the movie are nice - Paani da rang (both male and female version) and Rum whiskey. In the whole movie the word 'Sperm' has been used too many times and this shows that the makers of the movie wanted to broadly bring up this topic to the common public.

Overall a hugely entertaining movie and each minute is fun filled and exciting. I will definitely watch this movie again and give 4.5/5 rating.

P.S. - This post is my first attempt to write a review. Gearing up for Indian Bloggers League :-)

This is how I started loving my hair

Reema was from Kerala but her family had settled in Mumbai since she was born. She was a mumbaikar from any means but the trade mark of being from Kerala was long and thick hair which was missing in her. Whenever she used to visit her cousins back in Kerala she used to get pissed off. They all had thick, long and curly hair while she had thin hair that was medium dense but Mumbai water had damaged it. She grew up hating her hair and always used to cut her hair very short so that she doesn't have to undergo the trauma of its maintenance. She had read about Rapunzel and her beautiful locks of hair but she felt sad since she knew she wouldn't have that.

She was now in Junior college and she was one of the beautiful girls in her college. With her long stature and perfect figure she could have been an eye candy for all the guys. The only missing in her was her thin hair, only if she had a voluminous thick hair.. she used to think about this everyday but didn't really do anything. She and Minu were good friends and they used to hate a girl gang consisting of two brats - Rupal and Saloni. They both were from affluent family and always used to wear designer clothes and had perfectly straight hair that they used to take care of. One day there was a beauty contest announced in the college and undoubtedly everyone thought the winner would be either Rupal or Saloni. Their arrogance was increasing day by day and they had started harressing other girls in the college by passing comments on their dressing sense or hair. One day, in a science laboratory they challenged Reema and Minu to take part in the contest and try to at least achieve the runners up position.

Reema was confident that she can be a contestant but she knew about her hair so she encouraged Minu to participate in that. However, there were 3 months left for the contest and they had ample time. They decided to go to a hair stylist and Minu took all the tips from the stylist. After they finished their talk, the stylist gave a look to Reema and asked her why she is not participating. She told him about her frizzy hair which was hard to maintain and not at all beautiful as compared to other girls. But the stylist told her that she can work on her hair and she knows about Dove's haircare range and she was sure that something can come to her rescue. Reema was sure that nothing will work because she had tried most of the good brands and gave up the hope that she can have beautiful thick and curly hair like her cousins. But she gave a chance to her stylist who started working on her hair.
She started applying Dove's damage repair conditioner and shampoo which had patented micro moisture serum and fiber actives that internally reconstructed hair and prevented split ends. Her hair started looking like full of lusture and volume. Her hair was getting damaged on a daily basis, main reason was mumbai's pollution and also Reema was trying all new beauty products that had strong chemicals which were acting against the natural hair nutrition. She met the stylist after couple of weeks and told her how good she was feeling about this new damage repair solution. Her stylist told her that this new range was formulated with Micro Moisture serum that identifies the areas of damage and penetrates deep into the roots in order to restore and strengthen it from inside out. The contest was approaching and just a week before the contest when Rupal saw Reema's hair she started feeling jealous and in order to spoil her hair she spilled a plate full of pasta and soup on her hair. Reema went to the ladies room and she cried seeing her hair. She lost the hope of winning in the contest since her hair got damaged due to the food.

She ran to her stylist who recommended her to use the newest product in that range called 'Dove damage therapy overnight treatment', this was so powerful that it delivers the one month's worth of protein loss in one night and helps to restore hair strength and resilience while she slept. With this new range of Dove Intensive care products she almost forgot about her dull, frizzy hair that looked lifeless and it was indeed solution to her damaged hair problem.

She went to the beauty contest with utmost pride and she was happy that her hair which had grown a little longer was looking very healthy and she could style it the way she wanted. When everyone asked her about her newly evolved hair she proudly talked about 'Dove' and how it rescued her in the last minute. Everyone had seen this miracle happening in front of their eyes so they didn't hesitate to try out this product.

Read other entries for this contest - and that was the end of my hair problems!

Blank Pages

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 28; the 28th Edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton. The topic for this month is 'BLANK PAGES'.

Do you ever go to sleep and hope tomorrow never comes, or if it comes then it gives respite to your ever wandering mind and take you out of this tranquility? I am here facing something like this in my life and trying to find unanswered questions from my diary. Why am I here? Who are these people around me who pretend to know me but don't answer my questions? Why do they always put me to deep sleep when they know I will again wake up and ask the same questions?

Whenever I wake up I feel regenerated and try to restart my life. But I have a big showstopper always : these blank pages of my diary. Who rubbed off the important segments of my life? I am in a hospital since few days but I am trying to find out who am I and how i got here. What happened on 18th and 19th? Why did I stop writing my diary afterwards?Who is Vinay? When I loved him so much why he is not here when I am in a hospital?

Manu entered these words on 31th Dec entry in her diary wondering what happened on 18th and 19th? She was admitted to Nancy hospital near Shimla. But nobody came to meet her or claimed that she is part of their family.

It was new year's day and I had visited this hospital as a part of my every new year's resolution. In case you are wondering who am I , I am Anil and I am a business tycoon of Shimla. I always come to meet the patients of my hospital since I constructed it when I got success in my business for the first time.

After meeting some patients I entered Manu's room and it was tranquil ! She was staring from a glass window trying to find some answers. There was sadness in her eyes and she was not perturbed by my presence. She was deeply thinking something. I read this entry in her diary and became restless. I wanted to find out the reason for these blank pages. What happened in her life on those days and why is she admitted here?

I went to ask her doctor who was a neuro surgeon. I came to know that Manu and Vinay got married just an year back. They were deeply in love with each other.

Doctor: When Manu got admitted here she was in coma and she had severe brain injuries. We had left the hope that she will be alive but by God's grace she combated her coma but unfortunately lost her memory. She was getting these mental attacks every time she tried to think hard what happened. Police recovered this diary which she used to keep with her every time.

Me: But what happened to Vinay? Why he is not here?

Doctor: He met with an accident when he was coming back and this news was conveyed to Manu who came running on the accident site. She cried very hard when she was Vinay's body which was disfigured due to the accident and immediately she attempted a suicide. She jumped from a cliff nearby and fell in the valley.

Me: Oh no! That's so unfortunate of them. When she fell there what happened?

Doctor: She didn't really die. She got hit on her head by the rocks in the valley and hence these brain injuries and now she lost her memory. The problem is she didn't update her diary on 18th December and whenever she stresses her mind to recall what happened she becomes suicidal and we have to give her injections to calm down.

Me: What's the hope Doctor?

Doctor: We are not telling her what happened and why she is here because we are afraid that she will be suicidal again and can't bear this shock.

Me: But we can't keep her in this condition forever doctor, we have to find a way.

Doctor: Well, since you are here now. Can you please think of something?

The doctor gave me a look that made me melt down and I was trying to think what can I do to make her life better. I came up with a solution after reading her diary completely.

Next week, I came with a 4yr old boy who was an orphan. I came to Manu's room and introduced the child as Vinay. I saw her lips which were trying to smile but tears welled up from her eyes.

"Come my child, come.." she spread her arms and the orphan got what he deserved - "A truly loving Mother".

I got a phone call after couple of weeks from the doctor.

Doctor: How did you do this Mr. Anil? I can't believe she is recovering so fast.

Me: Well doctor, I spent a day to read her diary and noticed that in her diary she had never mentioned Vinay as her husband. She addressed him as her baby and listed out the pranks he played on her. So, instead of getting a man to pretend as her husband I brought a 4yr old baby who can play the same pranks as listed in the diary. Also, doctor a mother is always a mother. She can be strong like a mountain for her child and yet be suicidal if she looses the love of her life. I am glad I could change the direction of her life!

Doctor: Mr. Anil, you have proved us that most complicated medical conditions can sometimes be cured by simple common sense and humanity!

When I visited her, she was getting discharged. She said thanks to me for finding her 'Vinay' and also told that she has got this urge to live for this baby. Also, when I saw her diary I saw the picture of her with 'Vinay' ! My new year resolution to bring smile on one face has happened again in this year!
